People Behind the Logo: Spotlight on Jacqueline Mason, EHS Advisor at Apleona Ireland

Meet Jacqueline Mason, one of Apleona Ireland’s dedicated Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Advisors. Since joining the company in 2014, Jacqueline’s career has been marked by continuous growth, learning, and a passion for people’s wellbeing. Starting out on the Helpdesk in Head Office—back when the team was just three strong—Jacqueline has carved out a energetic path. From front-of-house and reception services across client sites to Facilities Coordinator, she built her career while studying part-time to earn her degree in Health and Safety. Today, she plays a key role in driving health and safety and promoting wellbeing across some of Apleona’s largest international corporate client accounts.

A Day in the Life

“No two days are the same—and that’s exactly why I love what I do,” Jacqueline says. Each morning begins with a review of incidents, actions, and updates from the previous day. From there, her work spans site walks, inspections, and one-on-one meetings with site teams to assess risks and plan upcoming activities. Jacqueline’s days often include reviewing risk assessments, investigating near misses, and offering advice to colleagues, clients, and contractors alike. Beyond the logistics, she’s also a Mental Health First Aider, ready to provide support—whether it’s a listening ear or connecting someone with professional help. “Health and safety isn’t just about physical risks, It’s about caring for the whole person.” Her role is a blend of hands-on presence and behind-the-scenes strategy—ensuring that safety isn’t a tick-box exercise, but a visible part of daily operations.

After Hours

Outside of work, Jacqueline enjoys the outdoors with her nieces and nephews, often going out on walks. She’s also loves a good DIY challenge or getting cosy with a book on the weekends.

Making an Impact

One of Jacqueline’s proudest achievements came in the form of one of her toughest challenges: preparing for a major audit. “The lead-up was intense—professionally and personally—but it turned out to be one of the most rewarding milestones of my career.” By staying organised, communicating clearly with both internal teams and clients, and leaning on the support of colleagues, Jacqueline navigated the pressure with grace and determination. “Pressure makes diamonds,” she says. “That experience proved it.”

Jacqueline draws inspiration from the people around her—her skilled and hardworking colleagues across Apleona—and even from within. “Like many, I’ve felt imposter syndrome. But when I look back on where I started and where I am now, I’m proud. I’ve grown— both personally and professionally—and that progress keeps me going.” For Jacqueline, the acknowledgement that even small actions—like a well-managed permit or a supportive check-in—can prevent harm or help someone through a tough time is a powerful motivator. “Health and safety isn’t glamorous, but it’s meaningful.” She highlights the importance of adaptability, communication, and teamwork. “Things change quickly—projects, clients, expectations. Being able to spin around while staying focused is key.” One of her most valuable lessons? “You don’t have to know everything—but you do need to be willing to learn, ask, and collaborate.”

Final Thoughts

For anyone joining the EHS team, Jacqueline encourages developing a mindset of flexibility and openness. “Be adaptable, be clear in your communication, and value your teammates. You won’t always have the answers—but you’ll always have support.” Jacqueline leaves us with a quote that sums up her approach to work: “If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” And when the going gets tough? “If at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again.”

Thank you, Jacqueline!
